Dublin High School Class of 2014 Commencement: “Gratitude, Humility, Responsibility”
The heat receded, the wind picked up and most importantly, Dublin High School’s Class of 2014 was able to graduate at home, in Gaels Stadium. For the past several years, Dublin High’s Commencement Ceremony was moved to the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton to accommodate the multi-year renewal project that is largely complete with the opening of the Center for Performing Arts and Education earlier this spring.
After a weekend of heat, cool breezy weather welcomed Dublin High’s graduating class. Parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and educators gathered in Gaels Stadium to celebrate four years of hard work and friendship, school projects and extracurricular clubs, performances on the stage, and competitions on the field. When the Class of 2014 sent their mortar boards flying it represented the end of high school and the beginning of a new adventure.
The event included speeches and presentations by Dublin High School Gael Scholar Benjamin Sher (who encouraged students to find ways to punctuate their lives in a passionate, well received speech), Dublin High Alumni Association Representative and City of Dublin Council Member David Haubert, Principal Carol Shimizu, School Board Trustee Dan Cunningham, City of Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti, Senior Class President Angie Wang, and Senior Class Vice President Caroline Nolan. The Dublin High Color Guard and Band, the Dublin High Choir, bagpiper Jeff Campbell and members of the Air Force Color Guard brought fanfare to the ceremony.
OneDublin.org had the honor and privilege to attend the event, capturing highlights on video including a time-lapse movie of the diploma presentations (compressing over one hour down to under 7 minutes):
This year’s theme was “Gratitude, Humility, Responsibility” – and the Class of 2014 has a lot to celebrate. Over 97% of Dublin High’s Class of 2014 will be attending college this Fall, including MIT, Stanford, Cornell, Georgetown, every University of California (UC), every CSU campus and and many more.
For those who couldn’t attend (and for those that want to relive some of the highlights) here is more from the memorable event:
