St. Mary’s College of California Admissions – a OneDublin.org Interview

April 16, 2010

To help parents and students better understand the process of admission to college, OneDublin.org recently interviewed Gina Meneni, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at St. Mary’s College of California.  Ms. Meneni is a St. Mary’s College of California graduate (’99) who has been a part of the St. Mary’s College Admissions team for over 10 years.

In the interview Ms. Meneni taps into a decade of experience helping students navigate the St. Mary’s College admissions process, covering what it takes to get into college, the elements of a comprehensive college application, and managing the cost of tuition.  Ms. Meneni also shares her own experiences at St. Mary’s College of California.

Founded in 1863, St. Mary’s College of California is a private 4-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.  St. Mary’s College offers 38 academic majors through four schools:

  • School of Economics & Business Administration
  • School of Education
  • School of Liberal Arts
  • School of Science

St. Mary’s College of California boasts an intimate and picturesque campus enjoyed by approximately 2,500 undergraduate students and 1,300 graduate students, set in the hills of Moraga, California.  The surrounding hillsides and tree lined boulevards provide students a unique environment for learning and exploration.  Dublin parents looking to inspire their children to seek higher education are encouraged to take a weekend tour of the St. Mary’s College of California campus (directions available here).

St. Mary’s College of California has many distinguished graduates including Brother Alfred Brousseau ’28 (mathematician, widely renowned authority on the Fibonacci numbers), Robert Hass ’63 (2008 winner of Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and Poet Laureate of the United States, 1995–97), Nicholas Moore ’63 (former Chairman, PriceWaterhouseCoopers), Dr. Carl Wu ’74 (distinguished cancer researcher, National Institute of Health), Greg Reyes ’84 (former Chairman & CEO, Brocade Communication), K.C. Estenson ’95 (senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com), and Mark Teahen ’02 (Major League Baseball third baseman).

St. Mary’s College of California is hosting the 2010 East Bay College Connection fair on Saturday May 8 from 1:00PM to 4:30PM, with over 130 colleges and universities participating.  This event is a great opportunity for parents and students to look at post secondary options.  More information is available here.

In addition to being a popular destination for Dublin High School graduates, both St. Mary’s College of California and Dublin High School share The Gael as their mascot.

OneDublin.org would like to thank St. Mary’s College of California, Ms. Meneni and Michael McAlpin (Director of Media Relations) for their time and support.
