Wells Middle School Bands March into Disneyland

March 30, 2010

Wells Middle School's Marching Band Heads Down Main Street U.S.A.

It is an annual tradition at Wells Middle School. The school’s award-winning marching band and jazz band programs make their way to Southern California to perform at Disneyland as part of Disney’s “Performing Arts” showcase in the spring.

Schools that want the opportunity to perform at the “Happiest Place on Earth” must send in audition tapes and be accepted into the program. Wells Middle School has become a regular performer over the years.

This year, more than 140 Wells students, who have been preparing since last fall by memorizing songs and participating in marching practice sessions, boarded buses for the trip south.

Last Thursday was performance day and Wells Middle School students did not disappoint.

The Wells Middle School Jazz Band performed for 30 minutes in Carnation Plaza to a large gathering of family members, friends and park-goers. Under direction of longtime band director Eric Bertleson, the jazz band performed such songs as “Cruella de Ville” , “Superstition” and “Living in America.”

Later in the evening, the members of the Wells Middle School Marching Band – including musicians and color-guard members – assembled to don their band uniforms and prepare to march down Disneyland’s storied Main Street U.S.A.

Wells stepped off at 6:30 p.m. in the twilight, marching down Main Street U.S.A.  led by Drum Major Katie Josey. They made their way through the park in advance of Disney’s evening parade playing such Disney favorites as “Be Our Guest” and “Supercalafragilistic.”

Congratulations to Wells Middle School musicians on a great weekend and an opportunity to showcase their school and the City of Dublin.
