  • For the last two years, we’ve had a group of Athletics parents run a stand at most of the Shoreline Amphitheater events.  The arrangement is as follows:
    • New volunteers attend a three-hour training session at Shoreline in March (dates this year are 3/19 at 1 pm, 3/20 at 10 am or 2 pm, and 3/27 at 10 am or 2 pm).  The training is called TEAM (Techniques in Effective Alcohol Management), and yes, it really is possible to fill up three hours on how to gauge levels of intoxication and properly check IDs.  Training is good for three years, we believe, so those that have already participated should be set for this year.
    • Next step is to sign up for concerts.  Daniela Fritter will send out a spreadsheet or e-mail with upcoming concert dates and keep track of sign-ups.  Last year we had one of the new stands right on the lawn, which takes from 4 to 6 people to run; we sold beer, water, and soda only (no food).  We did well, so are hoping to get that stand again (it’s essentially a lawn seat for us concert lovers).
    • On the day of the show, we usually arrive at least 2 hours before the start time to do inventory and start setting up.  We have a stand leader who manages things and makes sure the inventory used matches what we made, and who turns in the paperwork at the end of the night.  Stand leaders this year are Perry Tucker, Lisa Molinar, and Daniela; we are also looking for interested volunteers that we can groom to take over for us next year 😉  Concerts usually end by 11 pm, which means they have us start shutting the stand down around 10 pm.  Most concerts are on Fridays and Saturdays, although there are a fair number on Sundays and some during the week.
    • Based on how much we make and/or the number of people that worked, Aramark provides a check to Athletic Boosters.  The arrangement we had last year through Boosters is that each volunteer gets a $25 credit towards their kid’s sports participation fee per shift worked, and the remainder is split up among participating sports at the end of the season.
    • Here are the shows that have been scheduled so far:
      • Apr 8   Country Megaticket
      • Apr 29 Kenny Chesney
      • May 15 System of a Down
      • Jun 11  Tim McGraw
      • Jul 2     Vans Warped Tour 2011
      • Jul 10   Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival 2011
      • Jul 27   Jason Aldean
      • Aug 5   Toby Keith, Eric Church
      • Aug 26 Sugarland
      • Sep 16 Rascal Flatts
    • This is subject to change–Shoreline doesn’t always open our stand, depending on the show or expected attendance, and they also add more shows during the season.  Last year we ended up working over 20 shows.  The season usually peaks around August and ends in October with the Bridge School Concert.
    • If this sounds like something you’d like to do, let Daniela know which training session you’d like to attend, so she can let Aramark know who’s coming.  (Aramark is the name of the vendor who does the concessions at Shoreline.)  Also, please send responses to dfritter7@gmail.com or reply to this email and I will forward.
