TEDxEmeraldGlenPark to Explore “Future” with Diverse and Exciting Tri-Valley Leaders
DUBLIN, CA–A little over four years ago, my husband and I fell in love with the Tri-Valley and decided to raise our growing family in Dublin. My husband, who loves the outdoors, was inspired by Dublin’s beautiful views, hills, and numerous community parks. I loved the diverse community that highly values its children’s education and intentionally aims to create a bright future for all its residents.
Of course, we found that and much, much more! We discovered a community of doers, makers, and thrivers, who passionately lead by example to make the world a brighter place. This community preserves wholesome and sustainable values while embracing new ideas. In short, we found a community full of ideas that should be shared with the rest of the world!
And that is why I decided to organize TEDxEmeraldGlenPark, the first-ever TEDx event in Dublin. TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers, makers, and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, Ideas Worth Spreading. The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. And what better place to hold a TEDx, than the Tri-Valley?
This year’s event is on May 6, at the beautiful Shannon Community Center. The theme for this year’s TEDxEmeraldGlenPark is “Future.” What do you visualize when you think of the future? You may think of scientific and technological marvels, or you may think of the high hopes you hold for your children. You may even think of everyone who came before you, supporting you on your journey to your own future. “Future” means something different to each of us, and we can learn so much about each other as we consider the future together. At TEDxEmeraldGlenPark, we will explore the meaning of “future” from diverse perspectives. We are looking to bring leaders and community members together in an exciting, inspiring, and unifying forum.
TEDxEmeraldGlenPark will feature exciting speakers, performers, and exhibitors who live, work, play, create, or make a difference in Tri-Valley. Eugene Chou, STEM educator at Dublin High School, will explore what it takes to create an engineering program that inspires children to aim higher and dream bigger. Elisa Kleven, children’s book author and illustrator, will discuss the importance of magic and how small objects can make a big difference. Karl Wente, fifth generation winemaker, will challenge you to re-imagine the impact of wine on culture, humanity, science, and technology. Ken Wolter, oncology chaplain, will explore the importance of communication during tough and unexpected life changes and transitions. Suzanne Henricksen, entrepreneur, will explore how to create more “happy in your soul” moments. And the East Bay Jazz High School All-Stars will explore the theme of “future” with a unique musical composition.
Of course, we want to represent as many amazing Tri-Valley ideas as possible! If you are interested in exhibiting your unique innovation, product, or art installation at TEDxEmeraldGlenPark please tell us more about your proposed exhibit and how we can help make it successful. We also invite any interested community members to come volunteer at the event.
Attending TEDxEmeraldGlenPark is a great way to get connected, get inspired, and get excited about our unique community. Your presence would help create an enriching, intellectually stimulating experience for yourself and other attendees. A limited number of tickets are available online for you to purchase. There will be no tickets available at the door, so make sure you don’t miss out! I am so excited to meet and share ideas with this community. Let’s make this TEDx event one to remember.
