Dublin High School’s Homecoming 2013 was a memorable week consisting of fun dress up days and diverse community events. This year’s Homecoming theme was the attractions of Disneyland. The freshman class theme was Toontown Land, the sophomore’s was Adventure Land, the junior’s was Tomorrow Land, and the senior’s was Fantasy Land. Every day was a different Dress-up Day where students had the opportunity to reveal their class pride and compete in friendly competitions during lunch. Students were awarded Homecoming class points, and the class with the most people tallied for spirit competitions won Most Spirited.

Homecoming Week at Dublin High School kicked off on Monday with Superhero Day. Students dressed up as their favorite superhero and conquered the school day one class at a time.

Tuesday’s theme was Patriotic Day where students were seen belting out the beautiful colors red, white and blue. In addition, students were able to show off their patriotism by participating in the community’s International Walk and Roll to School Day. The Walk and Roll to School Day encourages students to travel to school in environmentally friendly ways such as carpooling, walking, or riding a bike to school. The event was a terrific way to help the environment while earning Homecoming class points.

Wednesday’s theme was Pink Day as part of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Dublin High showed their immense support for those diagnosed with breast cancer by turning Dublin High into a beautiful sea of pink. In the evening, Dublin High hosted its annual Homecoming Skit Rally. Each class performed their Homecoming themed skits and the nominees for Homecoming prince, princess, and king were crowned. Each class skit revealed great entertainment and creativity. One could not help but be in awe by the marvelous skits created and performed students. The skits brought about incredible class unity among students. In addition, amazing performances were given by the band, teachers, cheerleaders, and dancers.

Thursday’s theme was Class Homecoming shirts. In the morning, students woke up as early as 5 am to help set up their Homecoming theme area. Towards the end of the area setup, class cheers could be heard throughout the campus, bringing out boisterous school spirit and friendly class rivalry. All of the class areas revealed the artistic talent and hard work of students who devoted a great amount of time in making their area the best that it could be.

On Friday, Dublin High’s last theme day was Gael Force Day, where students went all out wearing school colors. After school ended, students headed off to either participate or watch the Dublin’s community Homecoming Parade. Immediately following the parade, Dublin High’s Homecoming Carnival was filled with families from the community. There were exciting games, lively entertainment and delicious food. The carnival ended at 7 pm, leading directly to Gaels Stadium where the Homecoming Game began against Las Lomas High School. During halftime, the Homecoming Queen was announced. While Dublin High’s football team ended up on the losing end of the game, the day was a victory in students’ hearts as Homecoming brought great school spirit and unity for the community.
