Dublin High School Grad Summer Benavidez to Compete for Miss Teen San Francisco

April 11, 2012

Dublin High School Class of 2011 graduate and University of Nevada, Reno freshman Summer Benavidez has been selected to participate in the 2012 Miss Teen San Francisco pageant competition. The 2012 Miss Teen production provides one of the most professional, well-organized and rewarding pageants that are available to young women. Ms. Benavidez was selected based on her application submission and interview session conducted last week in Dublin.

As a lifelong Dublin resident, Ms. Benavidez attended Murray Elementary, Wells Middle School, and is a 2011 graduate of Dublin High where she was enrolled in AP and Honors courses. Ms. Benavidez is a firm believer that participation in sports, community service, and other activities while growing up in Dublin have enhanced and expanded her experience as a student. Among her achievements, she lettered in women’s lacrosse at Dublin High, receiving the honor of “Most Inspirational Player” two years in a row. While serving as team co-captain her senior year, the Dublin High School women’s lacrosse team received its first NCS eligibility ranking.

As a ten-year member of 4-H, Ms. Benavidez held several leadership positions, counts a number of awards received for entries at the county fair among her accomplishments, and contributed to her community through volunteer opportunities for which she received recognition and was awarded a college scholarship. At the Dublin High School Senior Awards Night 2011, Ms. Benavidez was awarded the Dr. Lachica & Dr. Patterson Scholarship. Ms. Benavidez is continuing her education as a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she is majoring in International Business. She is employed at the University in the Political Science Department and hopes to one day study abroad. Ms. Benavidez has also worked for the City of San Ramon for the past two years and plans to resume her duties as a Recreation Leader during summer break.

In this year’s pageant, contestants between the ages of 7 – 19 will compete in one of four age divisions. The regional competition will take place Sunday, April 29th at Chabot College in Hayward. Prior to the competition, contestants undergo rigorous training sessions to prepare for the multiple categories in which they will be judged, including stage presence, casual and formal wear, and modeling routines, with a major focus on personal interviews and personality. Regional winners from each age division will represent San Francisco and the surrounding communities at the National Competition in Orlando, Florida in December where contestants will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes and awards. Ms. Benavidez intends to apply any pageant winnings she may receive toward pursuit of her academic goals. This is Ms. Benavidez’ first pageant contest and she is excited and proud to be representing her home town in the competition.

Community organizations, businesses and individuals interested in supporting Ms. Benavidez’ participation in this year’s event are encouraged to become official sponsors. Tax deductible sponsorship funds support the necessary training, rehearsal and production costs for contestants. The deadline to submit sponsorship donations is Saturday, April 14th.
