Dublin High School PFSO Update: 4-10-2011

Below are the latest updates from the Dublin High PFSO including updates on the Junior Prom and Senior Ball, the Tri-Valley TV Summer Camp, Fundraisers and an important update for parents regarding dances. Prior updates are available here.

  • Amici’s_Flier for the Academic Awards Fundraiser at Amici’s on Tassajara Road in Dublin. on Tuesday, April 12th from 11 am to 9 pm dine-in or take out (no deliveries).
  • Remember Wednesday is an early release day at 1:47p.m.
  • This Friday 3rd Quarter report cards will be mailed. I want to encourage everyone once again to not be an ostrich parent. Things will often times not get better miraculously. Kids sometimes need guidance to get back on the right track. Please be sure you talk to your child’s teacher and come up with a plan to get them back on track.
  • Are you checking the Parent Portal through the DUSD website? You can monitor issues such as: if you child is doing their homework, how they are doing on tests, whether or not they are GOING to school and lots more. If you aren’t signed up to use this valuable tool, reply to this email and I will try to help you get on your right path 🙂
  • Academic Awards DVD orders will be accepted in the Counseling Office through Friday, April 15th. Order forms are available in the Counseling Office. DVD’s are $13 for pickup in person or $15 if you would like it mailed to your home.

Tri-Valley TV Summer Camp

Thinking about choosing some form of video or television for your future career? Please see the Tri-Valley TV_Summer_Camp_2011. Tri-Valley TV Summer Camp, offered by Tri-Valley Community TV, includes an introduction to studio production, field production, writing, producing and digital video editing. This unique day camp consists of a total of 20 hours and is open to students in grades 6 – 12. Participants will work within a group to produce a TV program. Tri-Valley TV Camp will give the camper an overall picture of the production process, help prepare them for related courses in video production and give an edge for their future in the industry.

Two sessions will be offered to campers at the Tri-Valley Community TV studios in Pleasanton. The first session will take place June 13 – 17. The second session will be available from August 8 – 12. This unique, hands-on camp, will run from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. each day. The fee is $495 and registration is limited.

For more information and to register for the TV Camp, visit the Tri-Valley TV website at www.trivalleytv.org or phone the station at (925) 462-3030.

A Word about Dances

You may or may not have heard about concerns regarding the Sadie Hawkin’s Dance last weekend. Numerous students were given warnings and several were asked to leave. DHS administration turned the lights on to warn the students regarding inappropriate dancing.

DHS administration feels it necessary to explain what our expectations are so you will talk to your kids about appropriate behavior at dances.

  • Dancing styles that involve intimate touching of the breasts, buttocks or genitals, or that simulate sexual activity is NOT allowed.
  • Students must dance face to face.
  • All dancers must remain upright; no sexual squatting or sexual bending is allowed (i.e. no hands on knees and no hands on the dance floor with buttocks facing or toughing one’s dance partner.)

We simply cannot permit this type of behavior at dances. In recent years, dancing has become a problem for many high schools, not just DHS. We would like to continue these types of events, but if the behavior does not improve, we will have to severely limit them or cancel them altogether. Once again, it is our intention to provide school activities that are safe, drug/alcohol free, and comfortable for everyone in attendance. We welcome any feedback you may have. Please feel free to email me with questions or concerns: youngtheresa@dublin.k12.ca.us and remember to put DPRIDE in the subject line.

Junior Prom and Senior Ball Updates

JUNIOR PROM tickets are on sale now. The event will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 7:00 to 10:30 p.m. at Canyon View in San Ramon. Tickets are on sale in the Student Activities Office. Students may purchase their tickets during lunch or after school. The cost for each ticket is $72.00. Dinner is included in the price of the ticket.

SENIOR BALL on Saturday, May 14, from 7 PM to 10:45 PM. This year’s senior ball will be in San Francisco, at the St. Francis Hotel on Union Square (335 Powell St), in the California Ballroom (second floor). The event includes dinner and dancing, and will be well chaperoned by staff and administration.

The cost of the event is $77 per person. Tickets go on sale on Monday, April 11, and ticket sales will continue until Thursday, April 28. No tickets will be sold after April 28, so seniors must plan accordingly. Tickets can be purchased with cash, check (payable to DHS), or Visa or Mastercard in the Student Activities office.

In order to purchase a ticket to Senior Ball, students MUST complete a 2-page contract, which must be signed by the parent and the senior before a ticket can be purchased. Seniors are required to turn in their contract to Student Activities, and then allow about 48 hours for admin to approve the contract and return it to Student Activities. The senior can return to Student Activities to confirm that the contract has been approved, and only then can purchase the ticket to the event.

Sterling Tuxedo Fundraiser for the Junior and Senior Classes. When a Dublin High student goes in to rent a tuxedo, he can put his name on a card, with his year of graduation, and Sterling Tuxedo will give $10 back to the student’s class. If he brings in a friend, BOTH the friend and the boy will get a $10 discount off the cost of their tuxedos as an added bonus.

These cards can be picked up at Student Activities but they will also have them at the store. Sterling Tuxedo is located in the outer area of the Stoneridge Mall near the JcPenny Home Store.
