SPANISH 1

This course introduces the student to basic vocabulary, grammar and conversation in Spanish. The geography and culture of Spanish‑speaking countries will also be explored.

SPANISH 1A

Grade Level:                         9-10

Length:                                  1 year out of a 2 year course (Spanish 1 B)

Prerequisites:                        C or lower in middle school Spanish, or newcomers to Spanish language with recommendation from counselor and/or middle school English teacher.

Graduation:                          Fulfills one half year of Foreign Language requirement at DHS.  To complete the requirements student must complete 1 B and Spanish 2

College Prep:                        Combined with 1 B this class fulfills one year of CSU/UC Foreign Language requirement

This class is the first year of a two year commitment (student still needs Spanish 1 B).  Spanish 1A with 1B counts as only one year of the FL requirement.  Spanish 2 is still required in order to fulfill the DHS graduation requirements.  Spanish 1A/1B will cover in two years what Spanish 1 covers in one academic school year.  In order to fulfill Dublin High School graduation requirements, a passing grade is required through Spanish 2. This class is designed to give a strong foundation in first year Spanish by offering more opportunity for practice and enrichment.  It introduces students to basic grammar, vocabulary and conversation in Spanish.  Material on the geography and culture of Spanish-speaking countries is also included.  

SPANISH 1B

Grade Level:                         10-11

Length:                                  Second year out of a 2 year course (Spanish 1 B)

Prerequisites:                        C or higher 1 A

Graduation:                          Fulfills one half year of Foreign Language requirement at DHS.  To complete the requirements student must complete Spanish 2

College Prep:                        Combined with 1 A this class fulfills one year of CSU/UC Foreign Language requirement

This class is the follow up course for Spanish 1 A.  This course completes the first of a two year FL requirement at DHS.  Spanish 2 is still required in order to fulfill the DHS graduation requirements.  In order to fulfill Dublin High School graduation requirements, a passing grade is required through Spanish 2. Spanish 1 B continues to give a strong foundation in first year Spanish by offering more opportunity for practice and enrichment.  It introduces students to basic grammar, vocabulary and conversation in Spanish.  Material on the geography and culture of Spanish-speaking countries is also included.
