This course is designed to introduce the student to basic grammar, vocabulary and conversation in French. Material on the geography and culture of French‑speaking countries is also included.

FRENCH 1A

Grade Level:                         9-10

Length:                                  1 year out of a 2 year course (French 1 B)

Prerequisites:                        C or lower in middle school French, or newcomers to French language with recommendation from counselor and/or middle school English teacher.

Graduation:                          Fulfills one half year of Foreign Language requirement at DHS.  To complete the                                                               requirements student must complete 1 B and French 2

College Prep:                        Combined with 1 B this class fulfills one year of CSU/UC Foreign Language requirement

This class is the first year of a two year commitment (student still needs French 1 B).  French 1A with 1B counts as only one year of the FL requirement.  French 2 is still required in order to fulfill the DHS graduation requirements.  French 1A/1B will cover in two years what French 1 covers in one academic school year.  In order to fulfill Dublin High School graduation requirements, a passing grade is required through French 2. This class is designed to give a strong foundation in first year French by offering more opportunity for practice and enrichment.  It introduces students to basic grammar, vocabulary and conversation in French.  Material on the geography and culture of French-speaking countries is also included.  

FRENCH 1B

Grade Level:                         10-11

Length:                                  Second year out of a 2 year course (French 1 B)

Prerequisites:                        C or higher 1 A

Graduation:                          Fulfills one half year of Foreign Language requirement at DHS.  To complete the requirements student must complete French 2

College Prep:                        Combined with 1 A this class fulfills one year of CSU/UC Foreign Language requirement

This class is the follow up course for French 1 A.  This course completes the first of a two year FL requirement at DHS.  French 2 is still required in order to fulfill the DHS graduation requirements.  In order to fulfill Dublin High School graduation requirements, a passing grade is required through French 2. French 1 B continues to give a strong foundation in first year French by offering more opportunity for practice and enrichment.  It introduces students to basic grammar, vocabulary and conversation in French.  Material on the geography and culture of French-speaking countries is also included.
