This course invites students to consider and debate provocative contemporary issues. Its emphasis will foster the students’ ability to argue from informed perspectives and to extend understanding of complex reading material in writing. Essential to the curriculum is the deepening of students’ critical reading, writing and thinking skills as they deal with expository prose. Based on the CSU’s Twelfth Grade Expository Reading and Writing Course, this rhetoric and composition course for seniors will enable them to meet college-level literacy demands. The course is built around in-depth studies of various expository, analytic, and argumentative writing controversial topics taken from news journals and magazines.
