Smokey Joe’s Café – The Songs of Leiber & Stoller Opens at Pleasanton’s Firehouse Arts Center Sat. April 27

PLEASANTON, CA–Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre’s “Smokey Joe’s Café-The Songs of Leiber & Stoller” opens on April 27, 2019. The show runs April 27, May 3, 4, 10, 11 at 8:00 PM and April 28, May 4, 5, 11, 12 at 2:00 PM. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm and is rated PG. Smokey Joe’s Cafe is performed at the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton.

This musical theatrical revue features 40 of the greatest songs of the past century, including show-stopping classics like “On Broadway”, “Stand by Me”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Hound Dog”, “Love Potion No. 9”, “Spanish Harlem”, “Yakety Yak”, and “Charlie Brown.” It celebrates the music of the legendary songwriting duo, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Their generation-defining songs provided hit after hit for icons like Elvis Presley, Ben E. King, The Coasters, and The Drifters.” The original Broadway cast won a Grammy award in 1997, was nominated for seven Tony awards and was the longest musical revue on Broadway in history.

The songs of Leiber and Stoller provide a basis for this electrifying performance that celebrates the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll. With a partnership spanning decades, their music illuminates the classic themes of friendship and love won and lost, with both humor and universal emotion. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs in the American songbook, Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a show sure to be enjoyed by both the young, and the young at heart.

Smokey Joe’s Café is Tri-Valley Rep’s second production as the new resident company at the Firehouse. The final show in their 35th season will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which will be performed this summer at the Bankhead Theater. Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre will continue to perform at both the Bankhead Theater and the Firehouse Arts Center and recently announced their 36th season. The two shows next season at the Firehouse Arts Center will be The Fantasticks and Damn Yankees and their two shows at the Bankhead Theater will be Mamma Mia and Children of Eden.
