To The Dublin Unified School District Community:
I am delighted to share the news that Dr. Dave Marken has agreed to serve as the
Interim Superintendent of the Dublin Unified School District over the next few months
as the Board of Trustees conducts a search for the District’s new leader. He will join
the District team on April 15th.
Many members of our school community remember Dr. Marken as he worked in our
District for 13 years, serving as an Assistant Principal and Principal at Dublin High, a
Sr. Director of Secondary Education and Student Services, and then as Assistant
Superintendent of Educational Services and Human Resources. Dave then accepted
a role as Superintendent of Schools at Newark Unified, where he retired after serving
in that position for 5 years.
Dr. Marken has deep roots in Dublin and his connection to our school community will
help us begin the process of rebuilding while continuing the commitment to provide
our students with an exceptional educational experience. His work ethic, experience,
energy, compassion, and integrity will guide us through this difficult time and set the
stage for our future Superintendent to take the reins. The board is excited to welcome
him back and confident that we are in great hands.
We are grateful to Dr. Matthew Campbell, Assistant Superintendent of Educational
Services, for continuing to serve as our Acting Superintendent. Dr. Campbell stepped
up with energy and commitment to provide leadership immediately following the
announcement of Dr. Boozer’s departure and during this period of leadership
transition.
Dr. Marken will be in the District Monday through Thursday, and will work closely with
the entire District leadership team to ensure a seamless transition and smooth
operations. On Fridays, Dr. Campbell will be at the helm. This schedule is due to
laws that strictly prescribe the number of hours that retired public education
employees can work before compromising their pension.
We will keep you apprised of our plan to search for a new leader. We will be
discussing Superintendent search firms at our Board meeting on April 23rd, which will
officially begin our search process.
Respectfully,
Amy Miller
President, Board of Trustees
Dublin Unified School District
