Karl Wente Explores Winemaking at TEDxEmeraldGlenPark: Wine, Wisdom, and What’s Next
DUBLIN, CA–As I recently shared, our theme for this year’s TEDxEmeraldGlenPark event is “Future.” When we think of the future, we look forward. But the past can also guide us. How do you look at the future when you have a lot of history and tradition behind you? How does can you grow with the times yet remain true to where you comes from?
During his TEDxEmeraldGlenPark talk, Karl Wente, fifth generation winemaker, will explore the intersection of old and new, technology and culture, past and present, tradition and innovation, mind and body, science and art, family and self, and business and society. He will challenge you to see the complexity and simplicity of winemaking and wine enjoying in a way you haven’t appreciated before. By the end of his talk, you will appreciate the complex interdependency between past, present and future, both in the context of winemaking and in everyday life.
This “time travel” journey through winemaking promises to change your perspective on the future and inspire you to embrace your roots as you move forward. In today’s modern, fast-paced world we often focus on innovation and the “next big thing.” But as a winemaker, Karl has unique experience knowing that some of the greatest successes are a long time in the making. This talk will especially resonate with our family-oriented community, which is home to many thrivers, pioneers, and immigrants!
Karl oversees all Winemaking at Wente Family Estates. He joined the family business in 2001 and has lead wine innovation, started the Nth Degree line of wines, and helped expand the Wente Family Estates portfolios. His education includes a degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University and two Master’s degrees: one in Horticulture (Viticulture) and one in Food Science (Enology), from the University of California at Davis.
Karl balances his strong academic background with the traditional hands-on approach of previous generations of Wente family winemakers. He grew up working at the winery, and expanded his experience with work at the Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma and Brown Brothers winery in northern Victoria, Australia. When Karl is not making wine or out in the vineyard, you can catch him playing music with his local band, practicing yoga, or reading / listening to audiobooks.
Come explore how the past, present, and future intertwine with Karl during his TEDxEmeraldGlenPark talk! Attending TEDxEmeraldGlenPark is a great way to get connected, get inspired, and get excited about our unique community and how winemaking can provide insights into understanding the future. Your presence would help create an enriching, intellectually stimulating experience for yourself and other attendees. And, of course, who wouldn’t appreciate the chance to “time travel” through wine? A limited number of tickets are available online for you to purchase. There will be no tickets available at the door, so make sure you don’t miss out! I am so excited to meet and share ideas with this community. Let’s make this TEDx event one to remember.
