2014 Scholarship Recipients

The Brian Beasley Memorial Foundation was created in 2012 to honor the memory of Brian Beasley. Brian was the  father of Elizabeth and Rebecca, both graduates of Dublin High School. Rebecca, now attending the US Air Force Academy, was recently profiled as part of OneDublin.org’s Life in College series. The next fundraiser will be held on August 16 (details below) in Dublin. The cost is $100, which includes dinner, drinks and poker. For non-poker players, $25 includes dinner and drinks. Prices are $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd and $200 for 3rd. Donations are welcomed for those unable to attend.

Brian was an avid sportsman as well as an active participant in the Dublin community and Dublin High School. The mission of the Foundation is to help student athletes achieve their dream of playing collegiate sports as well as to provide mental health resources for all students. The first part of the mission, which helps student athletes reach a collegiate level, is a complicated process and many athletes get lost in the journey.

The Foundation is currently assisting Sophia Hui, an incoming senior and golfer.  In her application essay Sophia wrote “With the Brian Beasley Athletic Scholarship, I know that I can get the best chance to achieve my dream. I already have the drive, the determination and the will to work extremely hard: all I need is a little guidance and push from the right mentors to succeed.”

The foundation also offers scholarships to student athletes that will be playing sports in college. In 2014 four $1,000 scholarships were presented to Joli Holland (volleyball), Clark Jackman (swimming), Jennifer Lee (cheerleading, crew), and Samuel Gebremiche (soccer).

The second part of the mission places an emphasis on mental health at the high school level. Many of today’s students face a tremendous amount of stress, coupled with peer pressure and bullying via social media. The Foundation is looking to increase the resources available for students in need.

The Brian Beasley Foundation has been funded primarily by an annual Poker Party.  The next fundraiser will be held on August 16, 5:00 PM, at the Hites Plaza (5601 Arnold Road, Dublin). The cost is $100 and includes dinner, drinks and poker. For non-poker players, $25 includes dinner and drinks. The prizes are 1st- $500, 2nd- $300 and 3rd-$200. Donations for those unable to attend are welcome. RSVP here.
