Fallon School PFC Hosts Read-In-Day Literacy Event
by Fallon PFC
Fallon School recently held its annual literacy event “Read In Day”, sponsored by the Fallon Parent Faculty Club (PFC). This exemplary program has been designed and implemented successfully since Fallon School’s inception in 2006.
The proverbial adage, “it takes a village to raise a child” has been the core of the “Read-In-Day” event’s success. Fallon teachers, students, support staff, government officials, parent volunteers and businesses across the United States have generously contributed and supported the literacy event held this past Friday, March 4th on Fallon’s campus. Guest readers included City of Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti, KTVU anchor Gasia Mikaelian and CBS 5 anchor Juliette Goodrich.
The program, organized by the Fallon PFC, served as a way to highlight the importance of literacy in a relaxed and fun environment. Fallon PFC was able to reach their goal of securing incredible prizes for the student readers, generously donated by businesses and institutions from California and New York. Fallon PFC would like to thank Sprint, Safeway – Northern California Division, The Tech Museum, PSP Unlimited from Ithaca, NY, Digital Concrete Scanning Services, SF 49ers, Mr. Don Olson and G.R Doodlebug – Blackhawk.
The Alameda Firefighters Department Community Outreach Program, Dublin Police, Red Robin (Pleasanton), Rotary Club of Dublin President John Zukoski, Dougherty Elementary School Principal Lynn Medici, Fallon School Principal Aileen Parsons, Fallon’s media technician, Ms. de Wit-Smith, and parent volunteers all made the event possible.
As a non-profit educational organization, Fallon PFC’s aim is to improve reading and comprehension skills among Fallon students. Fallon PFC believes that having local officials, business and parent support is an essential component in creating a successful learning environment for Fallon’s children.
