Dublin High School PFSO Update: 9-20-2010

Below is the latest update from the Dublin High School PFSO.

Dublin High School Progress Reports

Progress reports are being mailed on 9/24.  If you are not happy with your student’s grades, please don’t be an ostrich parent (remember, those are the parents that keep their head in the sand and think that things are magically going to get better on their own) There is plenty of time to get your student back on track so please come up with a plan to make some changes.

  • You can talk with your student’s teacher to come up with some good strategies.
  • You can encourage your student to attend the free Tutoring University we have at DHS on Monday and Thursday evenings.
  • If you have a library card you can even make use of the free online tutoring service through the Alameda County library. Students can go to this website then click on the “Get Live Homework Help Now” icon to connect with a live, competent tutor for help in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies (for free!) seven days a week, from 1:00 – 10:00 p.m.   Apparently, students can even upload essays, and the tutor can help them with editing.

Race to Nowhere Screening at Dublin High School

We are hoping to have a screening of the acclaimed documentary Race to Nowhere  at DHS a week from Thursday on September 30th at 7:00p.m.  That screening is in jeopardy because DHS has thus far failed to sell the amount of tickets required by the film’s distributor.  If you are planning on attending the screening and just haven’t gotten around to purchasing your ticket online, please, please don’t delay any longer!

You can purchase your $10 presale ticket at  www.rtndublinhigh.eventbrite.com

Some of you have been asking about your DHS students attending the screening.  I just watched the film maker talking to CNN and she said that it was a good idea to have children attend the screening along with their parents because it might be a chance for a dialogue to begin between you and your child about how they are feeling with all of the pressures of school, etc.

This screening is open to the public.  And after the screening, there will be an open discussion about the film with a facilitator.

Again, please, please purchase your tickets soon so we can actually have our screening!

Dublin High School Library Fundraiser

The library is having a fundraiser to purchase books for our new library opening soon.  Please go to www.funds4books.com and enter the code a60b.  Please check out the site and help make a difference for our DHS library!
