The evening runs 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. and will be set up in both the cafeteria and the gym. All high school students from the Tri Valley area are invited to attend with their parents.

The DHS Career Center is an Excellent Source for Information

You can find the Career Center on the DHS by going to http://dusd.schoolwires.net/dhs/site/default.asp then click on departments and then the career center.  There you will find lots of helpful information including questions to ask at the College Fair plus upcoming college visits to the DHS campus as well as colleges that will be in the Bay Area holding informational sessions. For questions please contact Amanda Carlson in the Career Center at carlsonamanda@dublin.k12.ca.us

Don’t Miss Parent Nights

Please mark your calendars for Parent’s Night with the counselors.  Junior and Senior Parents meet on Wed. 10/6 at 6:30p.m. in the Little Theatre.  Students are welcome.  The counselors will go over subjects related to the two grade levels including: important calendar dates, SAT/ACT information, college applications, and more.

Freshmen and Sophomore Parents meet on Wed. 10/20 at 6:30p.m. in the Little Theatre. This night will cover some of the same subject matter as the Junior/Seniors but will also focus on subjects such as career pathways and college options.

On both nights they will also review updates from the CSU and UC systems regarding impaction and college admission.

It will be very worthwhile to come to these nights but in case you are unable, the counseling department will be posting their power point presentations on the website.

Academic Block D Primer

The Academic Block program is designated to acknowledge academic success. Students interested in obtaining an Academic Block must apply, much like the athlete that must try out and participate in a sport to receive an Athletic Block. Each semester, students with a high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 for three (3) consecutive semesters or five (5) total semesters, may be eligible to apply for this award program. Students who have less than a 3.5 GPA but are taking Honors or Advanced Placement courses may also be eligible, as they receive one extra grade point for each course. Students submitting an application may not have a confirmed cut, a suspension, or have been dropped from a class by a teacher for disciplinary or attendance reasons. All academic courses accepted for graduation are counted. Classes that do not count include P.E (grades 10-12), student assistant, adult education, continuation school, work experience and leadership/student government.

Students wishing to apply for Academic Block D should complete an application for each semester that they are eligible. Applications are accepted during OCTOBER for the previous spring semester, and FEBRUARY for the current fall semester. Late applications are not accepted. If you submit a qualifying application, you will receive an invitation by mail to attend the Annual Awards Celebration, held in the Spring.

You will receive a CERTIFICATE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT upon acceptance of your first application. You will receive a CERTIFICATE OF COMMENDATION upon acceptance of your second application, also, your third and fourth application should your 3.5 GPA not be in consecutive semesters. You will receive an ACADEMIC LETTER upon acceptance of your third (3rd) consecutive semester or fifth (5th) non-consecutive semesters. For all accepted applications after the third (3rd) consecutive or fifth (5th) non-consecutive semester, you will receive an “Honor” pin.

Applications will be available and accepted October 1-15, 2010 for the Spring 2010 semester. To pickup an application, please have your student visit the counseling office.  For questions please contact the Dublin High Counseling Office.

For Parents of Winters Sports Athletes

If you have a student who would like to play basketball, soccer, or wrestle, please note that the Winter Sports Meeting for parents will be held Tuesday, 11/2 in the gym.

You will also want to visit the website: http://dublinhighathletics.olinesports.com and click on links/forms to download your athletic packet.  Students need to have one of the forms completed by a physician prior to the start of the season.

There will be a Winter Sports Physical night on Wed. 11/3 at 6:00p.m. for those that do not have a personal physician or cannot get in to see their doctor prior to the start of the season.  Look for a flier from Cyber Stacey sometime later this month.

Student Store is Open!

Students and parents can purchase their DHS Spirit Wear at the Student Store.  Items such as DHS blankets, hats, scarves, polo shirts plus sweatshirts are available.

The store is located inside Student Activities with items available for purchase each day during school hours.

Advanced Placement Facts from DHS

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.  About 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams.

During the 2009-2010 academic year, 54 students at Dublin High School earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams taken through May of 2010.  The grade level of the student(s) listed next to each type of honor earned indicates the grade level that they were in when they earned their designated AP award.

  • One student qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
  • 15 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
  • 12 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
  • 26 students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three of more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher.

Of the 2009-2010 academic year award recipients at Dublin High School, 21 are sophomores or juniors.  These students have at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn a higher-level AP Scholar Award.

For the 2010-2011 academic year, Dublin High School will administer 632 Advanced Placement exams during the testing window in May.  This is an increase from 433 exams administered in 2009-2010.  Dublin High School’s number of students in AP, Honors and Advanced courses is increasing each year, and we are also pleased to be a test site for home-schooled students and students whose schools may not administer specific AP exams at their sites.

Please join Dublin Unified School District in congratulating these talented students for their outstanding achievment.
